Secretariat of the National Council of
Resistance of Iran:
On Monday, 30 December 2013, Iraqi forces under
command of prime ministry began transfer of Camp Liberty T-walls from behind
camp walls’ stockpile to out of the area. These T-walls are loaded and
transferred out by special vehicles from south and east of Camp Liberty. This
measure is being implemented while it is just four days past the fourth rocket
attack on Camp Liberty that doubles the necessity for security provisions in
the camp.
During presence of U.S. forces in Camp Liberty,
17,500 T-walls protected containers in the camp from shrapnel and mortar;
however, once PMOI members in Ashraf were transferred to Camp Liberty, despite
their opposition, Government of Iraq transferred these T-walls out of the camp.
Following the February 9, 2013 rocket attack, residents
and their representatives numerously requested from Iraqi, U.S. and UN
officials to return the 17,500 T-walls to the camp to bring down vulnerability
of the residents and containers. Surely, with these T-walls in place, the
number of death and injured from the rocket attacks would have been far less.
A week after the fourth rocket attack,
Government of Iraq also continues to obstruct provision of other minimum
security requirements such as transfer of protective helmets and vests and
medical equipment from Ashraf, etc. a fact that lucidly demonstrates it not
only has no intention whatsoever to provide security to camp’s residents, but
is planning to extract more casualties in the probable future attacks.
